Guindon, Pascal

(?-?), businessman. He bought a gasoline distributorship at Apple Hill, GC, in 1934. In 1935 the Guindons moved from Bourget, Ont., to Apple Hill. Earlier, he had been a secondary school student at the University of Ottawa, and with his brother had operated a general store at Fugèreville in Northern Quebec, then worked in Montreal, and again operated a store, this time at Bourget, Ont. He was married to Joséphine Lalonde. (six children) Their children included: (1) Fernand Guindon, a minister in the Robarts and Davis Ontario Conservative governments, (2) Jean (John) V. Guindon (7 May 1926-24 June 1971), who in the 1950s bought the family petroleum business at Apple Hill. About this time Fernand Guindon established his own petroleum business in Cornwall. Jean V. Guindon was active in many local activities and organizations at Apple Hill, and he headed the drive to build a doctor’s clinic at Apple Hill. (3) Mgr Bernard Guindon (d. 9 Feb. 2000, aged 81), a well-known priest of the diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1943, served as pastor at Maxville and Glen Walter, and was raised to the rank of Mgr in 1981. (4) Dr Jeannine Guindon, a writer on psychology, and (5) Professor Hubert Guindon (10 Oct. 1929-18 Oct. 2002), of Concordia University, the well-known, well-regarded Canadian sociologist, who died too late to have his own life in this dictionary. The Guindon family was also closely related to Rev. Roger Guindon, rector of the University of Ottawa.
