| <tab>His long and distinguished career was marked by many honours. He was president of the Canadian Bar Association 1948-1949, and of the Law Society of Alberta 1952-1953. An LLD from Queen’s University came in 1949. He was made an honorary member of the American Bar Association the same year; and became Edmonton’s Citizen of the Year, 1955, and a member of the Order of Canada, 1973. In 1973 he was honoured by Pope Paul VI with the Bene Merenti medal and scroll for his work for charities (//Glengarry News// 28 June 1973). He had a long record of work for charitable causes, including Roman Catholic charities. He died in Edmonton, aged 95. Presbyterian. He was a Presbyterian elder for over 50 years.
