====== Irvine, Mrs George W. ====== (**Nellie Irvine**) (1892-3 Feb. 1985), church worker. (Nellie Irvine, Nellie G. Irvine, Nellie Green Irvine) Born in Prince Edward Island. Her maiden name was Green. Before her marriage she taught school in Saskatchewan and in Trinidad. She married Rev. George W. Irvine and accompanied him in his ministerial work in California, in the home missions in Saskatchewan, and in Oshawa, and during the period of almost 30 years during which he was minister at St. Andrew’s United Church, Williamstown. She was active in the Women’s Missionary Society, and in missions work at all levels, and during the Second World War in the Glengarry Red Cross. She wrote a history of the Women’s Missionary Society in GC from 1825 to 1961, under the title “//Lamps of Service into All the World”// (15 pp.; year of publication 1961?). She wrote a little booklet on the history of St. Andrew’s Church, Williamstown, which appeared in 1962 (5 pp.) and again about 1974 (8 pp.); and after her death this history was published in enlarged form (combined with a history on which she had been working of the church hall at St. Andrew’s) under the title of //History of St. Andrew’s United Church at Williamstown// (15 pp., 18 pp.; 1987?), with additional material by Mrs Ivan Clark and by Mrs Irvine’s daughter Mrs W.J. Wilson. Mrs Irvine retired with her husband to Cornwall. Her place of death was Cornwall. She and her husband are buried in the cemetery of St. Andrew’s Church, Williamstown.
