====== McIntyre, Archibald ====== (died 4 March 1871, aged 63) weaver. (Big Archey McIntyre) His earlier years were probably spent in the Martintown area of GC. He was converted to the Baptist religion through the preachings of Elder Safford, of Fort Covington, N. Y. The Rev. John King wrote about Archibald McIntyre, “He and his wife having made a profession of religion were baptised, and some time after removed back to the Indian Land then for the most part an unbroken forest, there to endure all the hardships of the new settler. When the [Baptist] church was formed in Notfield Archibald and his wife became members. He was by trade a weaver, and like many of that class a great reader, having an insatiable thirst for knowledge. By making the most of his scanty privileges, he became so far self taught, as to be able to teach the school, which he continued to do for seven years, so that many of the young people, now scattered throughout the province, received their instruction from him,…” The Rev. John King emphasizes both McIntyre’s kindness and his devotion as a member of the Baptist congregation. McIntyre had a farm close to the Notfield Baptist meeting house, then in his later years moved to a farm at a somewhat greater distance. McIntyre’s daughter Margaret was married in 1868 to the Rev. John Lorne Campbell. She was described (//Cornwall Freeholder// 10 Oct. 1918) as “a writer of literary distinction.” ---- Rev.
