Allen, George William

(died 10 March 1947 in his 59th year), Baptist minister. (George W. Allen) Native of Coaticook, Que. He was the minister of Maxville and Tayside Baptist churches, 1918-1923. He left Maxville in the spring of 1923, having accepted a call to the Ossington Avenue Baptist Church, in Toronto. (Glengarry News 6 April 1923, Cornwall Freeholder 12 April 1923) While in Maxville he published The Maxville Messenger, a well-edited, attractively-printed, well-illustrated, and highly-readable monthly with a strong interest in the local history of the Maxville area. All the known surviving issues are from the year 1920. He was pastor of the Ossington Avenue Baptist Church in Toronto at the time of his death at West Hill, Ont. He was married to Irene Ward.
