(30 Jan. 1856-29 May 1931), businessman and physician. (Dr J. K. McLennan, Dr John K. McLennan) (age at death as 74th year also found) Born at Martintown, GC. He went to the Canadian West in the early 1880s. He studied medicine at the Manitoba Medical College, a part of the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1894 when he was approaching 40. Also he studied medicine in New York, Chicago and Europe. He practised medicine at several places in Manitoba, but “In 1902 he retired from active practice and joined the executive staff of the J. D. McArthur co.…” He was associated with the GC-born railway builder J. D. McArthur, who was his cousin, and Dr McLennan was an executive member of the board of the contracting firm, J. D. McArthur Co. McLennan was remembered (Monrovia obituary) to have been “treasurer and director of three different railways” during this time. McLennan retired from the McArthur Co. about 15 years before his death, and moved to Monrovia, Calif., “where he again practised his profession.” He died at his home in Monrovia. At the time of his death he “had considerable business interests in Winnipeg realty.” He was one of the organizers, vice presidents and directors of the Mutual Building and Loan Association of Monrovia. Presbyterian and Presbyterian elder. Mason. His wife’s name is given as Eleanor Martin McLennan. (one child) She may have been the sister of Elizabeth McLennan the missionary.
