(1858-21 Sept. 1941), lighthouse keeper. (J.J. Munroe, Jake Munroe) Born at Glen Walter, GC. He is stated in his obituary (Standard Freeholder) to have lived at Summerstown and Glen Walter before 1892. Having earlier been a farmer, he was a lighthouse keeper for about a third of a century (variously stated as 28, 35 and 37 years) on Lake St. Francis, retiring in 1924. In 1925 he was awarded the long service medal by the Department of Marine and Fisheries. (Glengarry News 2 Oct. 1925) He died at South Lancaster. (five children surviving him) Presbyterian. He was married to Flora Jane Craig (1862-1962), who lived to be 100. An article by her on the history of Lancaster was published in the Cornwall Standard-Freeholder of 24 Nov. 1947, and she was interviewed by Dorothy Dumbrille and Alex Mullin.
