McKellar, Hugh

(11 Sept. 1841-6 April 1934), clergyman. Born in Appin, Argyleshire, Scotland. He came at age eleven to Canada with his parents, who settled in Lambton County, Ont. He was educated at the Sarnia public and grammar schools, and at Knox College, Toronto. He served as a Presbyterian minister, first in the Home and Indian Missions in the Canadian West from1874 to1888, next in Ontario from 1888 to1905, and then again in the Canadian West, this time in charge of the Foothills Mission Field from 1905 till his retirement from the active ministry in 1912. While in Ontario, he was pastor of Burns Church, Martintown, GC, from 1898 to 1904. He was the author of Presbyterian Pioneer Missionaries in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia (Toronto, Murray Printing Company Limited, 1924; pp. 249). He remained in the Presbyterian Church after Church Union. He died at his home in Calgary. His wife, who predeceased him by some twenty five years, was a Miss McDiarmid. (one child) He had the degree of Doctor of Divinity.
