Cameron, Duncan O.
(died 4 July 1954, aged 97), lawyer. (called Doc from his initials) Born at Kirk Hill in GC. Son of Rev. Duncan Cameron and his wife. The Rev. Mr Cameron was a native of Perthshire, Scotland,. who had been educated at the University of Edinburgh. He was the Presbyterian minister from 1855 to 1870 of the congregation which is now that of the United Church (the West Church) at Kirk Hill. He was one of the clergymen who sometimes assisted the Rev. Daniel Gordon in the church services of the Great Revival. Duncan O. Cameron was educated at Rockwood Academy in the Guelph area and at the University of Toronto and was called to the bar 1887. When he retired, 7 years before he died, he was thought to be the oldest practising lawyer in Canada. He commuted between Oakville and Toronto for 60 years. A keen gardener, he was active in the Oakville Horticultural Society. In 1905 he stood as the provincial Liberal candidate for Halton, unsuccessfully. Place of death: Hamilton General Hospital. He was unmarried.
