Campbell, Jamieson
(1844-19 March 1913), farmer, local politician. Born in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Parents: Archibald Campbell and his wife Elizabeth Sinclair. Jamieson Campbell, who came to Canada and the Township of Kenyon, GC, as a child, was a tinsmith in Cornwall, and later a farmer on the North Branch and afterwards a farmer in 11th Concession Indian Lands, GC, near Apple Hill. At the time of the wave of GC farmer interest in the Patrons of Industry in the 1890s, he served as county president for the Patrons in GC. As county president he presided at the mass meeting and picnic of the GC Patrons of Industry held 16 June 1893. To The Canada Farmers’ Sun, the newspaper of the Patrons of Industry, he contributed at least one letter and one editorial (28 Nov. & 5 Dec. 1893; see also 9 May & 27 June 1893 for him). He was an elder at Zion Presbyterian Church, Apple Hill. In Kenyon, he was a township councillor (1906) and deputy reeve (1893). Jamieson Campbell was married to (1) Annie Campbell (1845-1876), and (2) Christy Munroe (1849-1929). He died “at his home, West of Apple Hill Village.” (six children)
