The DeRochie foundry and machine works firm was known for skill in repairing the machinery for cotton and woollen mills. It also made products including iron and brass castings, pulleys, and school and church seats. Walter DeRochie invented a water motor which could be used to run home and office machinery, and which was used by the Freeholder newspaper in Cornwall to drive press equipment. Walter DeRochie was mayor of Cornwall in 1902 and 1908. About 1923 he retired from the Cornwall business and moved to Long Beach, Calif. It was at Long Beach that he died.
