Dickinson, Barnabas
(1783-1832), stage coach proprietor. A native of Massachusetts, of Mayflower descent, he operated as a businessman in both Canada and the United States. About 1814 he established a line of stage coaches and boats operating between Montreal and the head of the St. Lawrence River rapids at Prescott. Dickinson’s Landing in Stormont County (one of the “Lost Villages” flooded in the Seaway project) was named after him. Dickinson was not a Glengarrian, but he important to early Glengarrians for transport of mail and people and goods. He died in Cornwall of the cholera.
