Hurtubise, Emile Louis

(4 Sept. 1928-10 May 1994), newspaperman. (Emile Hurtubise) Born at Alexandria, GC. Parents: Louis Hurtubise and his wife Laurica Gauthier. Education at Alexandria (primary school and high school). Emile Hurtubise began work for the Glengarry News at 14 as a linotype operator and compositor. Thereafter, he worked in western Canada, was a linotype operator for the Ottawa Citizen (employed by Ottawa Citizen, 1949 to 1965), and worked again at the Glengarry News from 1965. He was the publisher of the Glengarry News from 1976 till his retirement in 1982. He was a sportsman, and one of founders of the golf club at Alexandria. In later years, he built the Heritage Golf and Country Club at South Lancaster. He died at Glengarry Memorial Hospital, after long illness with cancer. Roman Catholic. He was married in 1950 to Rita St. Laurent. (four children) They were the parents of the well known GC stamp collector, stamp dealer and authority on Glengarry postal history, Paul Hurtubise.
