Langlois, Mrs Mary Josephine

(Nov. 1844-10 Dec. 1929), of significant family connection. (Josephine Macdonald, Mrs Josephine Sandfield Langlois) Born in Cornwall, Ont. Parents: John Sandfield Macdonald and his wife Christine Waggaman. Mrs Langlois was not a Glengarrian, but her place in the Langlois and Macdonald families make her a part of the wideflung GC web of significant family connections. Also, as the daughter and sometimes hostess of a man who was a premier both before and after Confederation, she knew personally many of the eminent Canadians of that era . She was married on 1 March 1870 to Jean Langlois (1824-1886), who had been a law professor at Laval and was a Quebec MP from 1867 to 1878. Mrs Langlois died in Quebec City. (children surviving him: 3) Roman Catholic. Her children included Alexander Langlois (Alex Langlois, Alexander S. Langlois, A. Sandfield Langlois, Alexander Sandfield Langlois). He was called to the bar in 1902 and practiced law in Cornwall until his early death, aged 38, in 1911. He was the law partner of Robert Smith (1858-1942), MP for Stormont 1908-1911, who in 1922 was made a justice of the Superior Court of Ontario and in 1927 of the Supreme Court of Canada.
