Leduc, Aimé

(31 July 1917-22 Nov. 1985), clergyman. (Mgr Leduc) Born near Maxville, GC. Parents: Charles Leduc, a farmer, and his wife, Alma Bourgon. The Leduc farm was at Stewart’s Glen, on Lots 1 and 2 of Concession 20, Indian Lands, GC. He attended Maxville High School, seminary in Montreal, and University of Montreal. His ordination to the priesthood was at St. Finnan’s Cathedral, Alexandria, 2 Feb. 1944. (Glengarry News 4 Feb. 1944) Over many years, he was a pastor in the diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall, serving in a number of parishes. When the mission community at Martintown was raised to parish status in 1949, Fr Leduc was the first resident pastor, serving from 1949 to 1954. He was pastor of Nativity Parish in Cornwall from 1970 to 1984. During his pastorate Nativity Church was consecrated as the co-cathedral, 1976, and Fr Leduc became the first rector of the co-cathedral. In 1980 he was raised to the rank of Monsignor. He was killed in a traffic accident near Joliette, Que., while returning from a retreat at Joliette. Two of his sisters, Jeanne and Yvette, belonged to the Sisters of Charity, and another, Mrs Marcelle Leduc-Paquette, a well-known genealogist, was one of the organizers of the genealogical centre maintained by the Société franco-ontarienne d’histoire et de généologie at the Nativity Church in Cornwall.
