Lothian, James A.

(1 Sept. 1836-12 July 1864), soldier. (Capt. James A. Lothian) In the American Civil War, he served in the 26th Regiment of Michigan Infantry from 1862 till his death. He was commissioned as captain on 1 Sept. 1862. At the time of his enlistment he was a residing at Muskegon, Michigan. He was wounded in action before Petersburg, Virginia, on 16 June 1864. As a result his left leg was amputated, and he died in hospital at Alexandria, Virginia, of his wounds on 12 July. In the Breadalbane Cemetery, his gravestone “Erected in Memory of the Family of Archd Lothian,” also records the deaths of John Lothian (1827-1857) in Nebraska and Peter Lothian (1826-1864) in California.
