MacEwan, James Urquhart
(died 1 Aug. 1962, aged 66), metallurgist. (James U. Urquhart) Born at Martintown,GC. He served as a gunner in the Canadian army in WWI, and graduated in metallurgical engineering from Queen’s University, 1922. Afterwards, he worked for a Montreal firm involved in lead smelting, then from 1931 he taught at the Montana School of Mines, with the rank at time of leaving of assistant professor. He was appointed associate professor of metallurgy at McGill University, 1936. (Standard Freeholder 11 Sept. 1936 ) Later, he was a full professor and chairman of the Dept. of Metallurgical Engineering at McGill. In 1961 he retired. He died at Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Que.
