MacRae, John Duncan

(17 Sept. 1886-17 March 1963), businessman. (John D. MacRae, J. D. McRae) Born in Roxborough Township. Parents: Donald B. MacRae and his wife, whose Christian name was Marianne. He attended high school in Cornwall and business college in Ottawa. Having moved in 1929 from Moose Creek to Maxville, he made that village his home for the remainder of his life, and there dealt in insurance and real estate, and was a notary public and auctioneer. He was one of the founders of the Glengarry Highland Games in 1948, being the secretary and otherwise a highly-active member of the group which staged the very successful games of that year. Since then, the games have been held annually in Maxville. He was married to Linda Begg (1888-1981). He died at the Civic Hospital, Ottawa, was a United Church elder and a Mason. (three children, two surviving him)
