McLennan, Donald G.
(1862-1939) and his brother Kenneth A. MacLennan (died 1949), physicians. (Donald McLennan, Kenneth MacLennan; the sources indicate the brothers spelled the Mac part of their surname differently) Both born at Dunvegan, GC. Parents: Mr and Mrs Kenneth MacLennan. There appears to have been a connection of this McLennan family with Ann Campbell of Dunvegan, celebrated in the 19th-century for her great age.
Dr Donald G. McLennan (1862-1939), a medical graduate from McGill in 1888, practised medicine for many years at Martintown. In 1913, he left Martintown for Toronto. (Glengarry News 15 Aug. 1913) Later, he practised medicine at Plattsville, near Kitchener. He died at Plattsville. He was married (1) to Minnie McPhadden of Martintown, who died in 1911, the daughter of Charles McPhadden (one child) (see collective entry for MacPhadden family), and (2) in June 1913, to Katherine May Bowen of Fraserfield (two children) (see Joshua C. Bowen). Rhodes Grant includes a few lively anecdotes from his Martintown years, characteristic of the life of a country physician of that time.
Kenneth A. MacLennan attended the Dunvegan primary school and Alexandria High School. A graduate in medicine from McGill University, he practised medicine at Dunvegan before moving in 1896 to Alexandria, where he practised medicine for 18 years. He left Alexandria for Edmonton in July 1914. (Glengarry News 17 July 1914) In Edmonton he practised medicine for many years. He died in San Francisco, which was his residence during the last few years of his life. He was married to Mayme Burton of Alexandria. (five children) At the inaugural meeting in Alexandria on 4 June 1907 of the Glengarry Telephone Company, he was named one of the three trustees of the company. Clarence Ostrom believed, it would seem in error, that he was associated in a medical practice with Dr G. E. L. MacKinnon, the future MP.
