McLeod, Norman Roderick
(18 Jan. 1883-19 Jan. 1934), teacher. (Norman R. McLeod, Normy Alex The Captain McLeod) Born at Dunvegan, GC. Parents: Alexander McLeod and his wife Flora MacDonald. After graduating from Queen’s University, he attended Normal School in Regina, and was principal of a continuation school at Arcola, Sask., 1906-1913. Later, he was on on the staff of Regina High School till 1924, then principal of Scott Collegiate, Regina, till his death, or at least till near the close of his life, or, by another account, he became principal of Regina High School in 1924, and later transferred to Scott Collegiate as principal. A year and a half before his death, he went on leave through illness, or, by another account, took leave of absence to pursue graduate work, and then almost immediately took ill. He died at Ottawa Civic Hospital. He was married to Mabel Baragar. (two children) Their son Alexander Norman McLeod, born 1911 in Arcola, Sask., became a distinguished economist who served with the International Monetary Fund, took part in a number of international financial missions, and was an economics professor at York University.
