Roy, Zo-Ann

(1905-9 Feb. 1986; died aged 80), author. Born at Glen Roy, GC. Parents: Jean-Baptiste Roy and his wife Marie Decoste. Zo-Ann Roy was for 23 years a Sister of Holy Cross. During this time she taught at Crysler and Moose Creek and at Iona Academy. Her name in religion has been found in the forms M.-de-S.-René-des-Anges, Marie-de-Saint-René-des-Anges, and Sister Reine des Anges. After she left the Holy Cross community she taught in Cornwall and was a staff member of the Cornwall Public Library. At some stage in her life she taught also in the United States. From the University of Ottawa she obtained her Certificate in Library Science (May 1959), B.A. general (Oct. 1970) and B. A. in Library Science (Sept. 1971). She died, aged 80, in Cornwall General Hospital. The burial was at St. Raphael’s. She was the author of Bibliographie des contes, récits et légendes du Canada-français: recueillis et annotés par Zo-Ann Roy (1983? Boucherville, Que., Les Éditions Proteau) and a children’s introduction to nature study in the form of a colouring book with text, Pierre, Paul, Jean et la nature (1985, Éditions du Parnasse). It is reported that at the time of her death she was working on a supplement to the Bibliographie which she did not live to complete. She was the sister of Jean-Baptiste Roy.
