Rutley, Frederick George

(28 Sept. 1890-14 Nov. 1981), businessman. (Fred G. Rutley) Born in Toronto. Parents: Mr and Mrs William Frederick Rutley. Fred G. Rutley studied engineering at the University of Toronto (B. A. Sc.). He served in France in WWI and reached the rank of captain, and in 1914 (and again, in 1919), he joined the Foundation Co. of Canada. Serving over many years with this company his positions came to include those of president and chairman of the board. Also, in 1936 and 1937 he was president of the Canadian Construction Association. The Rutley family came to the Lancaster area in 1955, and began building a retirement home, and from his retirement in 1962 they lived permanently at South Lancaster. He was married to Alice Archibald, who predeceased him. (four children, three surviving him) Fred G. Rutley died, aged 91, at the Chateau Gardens Nursing Home, Lancaster. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto.
