Ethier, Albert
(12 March 1886-25 May 1970), baker. Born at Ste-Justine-de-Newton, Vaudreuil County, Que. In Quebec province, he was a farmer and a local councillor and school commissioner. In April 1927, he came to Dalkeith, GC. Taking over the Dalkeith Bakery of his brother Joseph Albert Elzear Ethier, he owned it from 1928 or 1929 to 1947. When Albert Ethier arrived in Dalkeith, he and his wife did not know English. He died at Valleyfield Hospital. (children surviving him: 7) He was married in 1913 to Adorila (Adorilla) Marleau, who was born at Ste-Justine-de-Newton 10 July 1890 or 1891. She died at Dalkeith 28 Jan. 1930. Two of their children were MPs for the constituency which included Glengarry, Viateur Ethier and Denis Ethier. Another son, Jean-Paul Ethier (1917-1944), of the RCAF, died during an eye operation. (Glengarry News 4 Aug. 1944) The bakery remained in the Ethier family till it was sold in 1973 by Denis Ethier to George Lanthier & Fils, Ltée, the well known bakery firm of Alexandria. (Glengarry News 12 April 1973) Albert Ethier was buried at Ste-Justine-de-Newton.
