Morrow, Andrew Thomas

(1 June 1870-6 May 1945), dentist. (Dr A.T. Morrow, Dr Morrow) Born at Russell, Ont. Parents: James Morrow and his wife Mary J. Hamilton. The future Dr Morrow attended Russell Public School and Kemptville High School, and taught school for three years before training as a dentist. In April of 1899, the year in which he graduated from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons, Toronto, he set up his dental practice in Maxville. (Glengarry News 28 April 1899) In the long professional career as a dentist in Maxville which followed, he was occupied also with the public and community life of the village. He was reeve of Maxville, and was the first president of the Maxville Horticultural Society and the first president of the Maxville Jubilee Rink Company, and for 24 years he was secretary-treasurer of the Maxville Public School and High School. “Through his efforts largely, the High School was erected…” (obituary, GN) He was also president of the Glengarry Conservative Association. From 1937 he owned Morrow Motor Sales in Maxville. He was married on 22 Aug. 1900 to Jane Hamilton, who predeceased him. (one child) Dr Morrow died at his home in Maxville. Presbyterian. At his funeral in Maxville, schoolchildren formed a guard of honour from his home to the street. Burial was in North Russell Cemetery.
