Allin, Florence Catherine
(13 January 1902-28 Dec. 1993), business college proprietor. (Florence Allin) Born in Maxville, GC. Parents: Duncan Alexander McKinnon, who was a prominent lumberman, and his wife Mary Jane McEwen. Florence McKinnon graduated from Queen’s University (B. A., May 1926). One of the few GC-born women of her generation to venture into business in her own right, she established the McKinnon Business College in Ottawa in 1937 and managed it till 1981. She had also, at an earlier period, been a schoolteacher at Carleton Place. She is remembered to have been deeply interested in the history of GC. She was married in 1947 to Arthur Allin (d. 1974), who was at one time manager of the Banque Nationale in Maxville.
