McLaughlin, Angus L.
(1 April 1861-5 Dec. 1933), contractor. (baptismal name: Angus Kenneth; earlier spelling in this family McLachlan, McLachlin; form of his name Angus Lachlan McLaughlin also found) Born in GC, presumably at his parents’ home on Lot 30, 7th Concession of Lancaster Township. Parents: Lachlan McLaughlin (Lachlin McLachlin) and his wife Flora McDougal. He spent his first 27 years on the family farm, then on leaving the farm was employed in CPR construction work. In 1890 he settled in Livingston, Mont., which was to be his home for the remainder of his life. For 15 years he was employed by the bridge-building section of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Next he became president and manager of the Livingston Building and Manufacturing Co., “which at that time handled many large and important contracts throughout the state.” Later, he was in partnership with D. Joseph O’Neill in the firm McLaughlin and O’Neill, which was active in Livingston and more widely throughout Montana in the construction of sidewalks, sewers, waterworks, houses, business properties, and roads and bridges. After that partnership was dissolved, McLaughlin was president of McLaughlin Construction Co. He died at his home in Livingston. (five children) He was married in the 1890s, perhaps on 4 Oct. or 4 Nov. 1890, to Jeanette (Jenny) McRae, of GC, daughter of John Joseph McRae. Roman Catholic. He was the father of John L. McLaughlin. Another son died overseas in WWI. Angus L. McLaughlin was the brother of Daniel McLaughlin.
