Proulx, Jean-Baptiste

(7 Jan. 1846-1 March 1904), clergyman. Born at Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Que. He was ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood in 1869. An active career followed as priest, teacher, university administrator, and author. He was the author of L’enfant perdu et retrouvé ou Pierre Cholet (Montreal, 1887), which is based on the real-life story of a man from St-Polycarpe, Que., who in later life had GC associations: see Pierre Cholet in the present dictionary. Fr Proulx acted as an agent of Prime Minister Laurier in the settlement of the Manitoba Schools question. He died in Ottawa.
